Facebook is a social networking site. It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, and Charis Hughes. In the present era, Facebook has become the world’s largest social network. Having more than one billion users across the world. Although Facebook is very popular, there are many accused charges against it.

Recently, a charge for violating civil rights was imposed. The FIR states Ankhi Das, Facebook policy chief of India, is intentionally hurting the religious sentiment of people. During the whole incident, she has been the center of all the controversies. A journalist in Raipur filed a complaint. Accordingly, Facebook India is trying to hurt the sentiments of people. Especially, posting against the Hindu religion.

Consequently, Ms. Ankhi Das started receiving threat messages. Although some people came in support of her, they received threaten.

After all these, Ms. Das filled a complaint against five people for threatening her.

Another charge claims that Facebook has a “broader pattern of favoritism” towards BJP. As it allowed objectionable content to remain on the site even after the issue was flagged by company Chief Mark Zuckerberg.

In return, Ankhi Das said, We prohibit hate speech and content that incites violence and we enforce these policies globally without regard to anyone’s political position or party affiliation”.

A committee of Delhi assembly stated that Facebook is one of the main culprits for the riots that broke out in Delhi and across the country.

AAP leader raised a question from Facebook,

When the Black Lives Matter movement started in America, Facebook implemented its community standards. Following their by-laws, they worked to strengthen brotherhood between communities. Facebook removed the content, which affected the brotherhood between different communities. But when the Delhi riots happened, Facebook did not implement the same standards. Facebook’s double standards are clear from this. Why Facebook didn’t take the required steps in this case?

Apart from these accused charges on Facebook, there are some charges like a data leak. In this, some people got access to the data of other Facebook users without their consent. Analogous to this, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologized to users. Moreover, he promised all the users that the company will take the required steps regarding this.

In the present era of social media, we must keep in mind that we should use it carefully. As every coin has two sides. Above all, it depends on us that how we are using anything.
