Indian apps are emerging as an alternative for banned Chinese apps and other apps in India. Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidawatka developed the koo app in November 2019. It was launched to public in March 2020.Since then there is over 3million downloads. It attained it’s peak in the past one week after the clash between Indian government and Twitter . Some ministers of India started using koo app. They also encouraged people to use KOO app as an alternative to twitter.
There is a difference in the logo is that, KOO has a yellow bird but twitter has a bluebird.

Bombinate Technology is the parent company for both KOO and Vocal. Vocal is similar to that of Quora platform.

Controversy on data security
As there is a large increase in number of users there arising a question on data security. It was said that the profile information including date of birth, gender, marital status were available openly on internet.
Co founder and CEO of KOO app Mr. Aprameya Radhakrishna denied that the information is made public with the permission of the user. Hence it cannot be termed as data security breach.
Another issue on the email id of the users were public. That was also fixed. The email option is used by only 4% of the users in KOO app
Twitter vs Indian government
The Indian government is not satisfied with twitters activities since Republic Day incident. Soon after the farmers protest on Republic Day, internet was cut in Delhi . And many international celebrities came in support of farmers in twitter. Therefore the Indian government asked twitter to remove posts related to farmers issue and block accounts spreading new on it. But twitter denied this request and replied it would be against freedom of expression.
This created friction on both sides and the Indian government wanted to replace twitter in India. Thus came the KOO app.
