Pushkar Singh Dhami takes oath as Uttarakhand CM- A Political Turmoil

The political turmoil in Uttarakhand peaked on 3rd July 2021. Tirath Singh Rawat submitted his resignation to the governor. Now, Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken the oath as the 11th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Here is a list of the events that led to this change!

Tirath Singh Rawat’s Exit- The Reasons That Drove Him Out

Although claims of Tirath Singh resigning voluntarily to ward off the constitutional crisis are making the buzz, there are more underlying causes! For instance, his remarks and comments as soon as he took over did bring backlash to the party! Either it be the “Ripped Jeans” Comment or America ruling India- all of his comments harmed the BJP’s face in the state.

Many of the MLAs in the party became uncomfortable because of him. Many also claimed that Tirath Singh Rawat was ‘Politically Naive’. Therefore he could not manage the political ambitions of many of the MLAs in the party! It was a failure on the part of his advisors too as they could not warn him about the people’s Representation Act and the pre-analysis of the bypolls.

Who is Pushkar Singh Dhami?

Pushkar Singh Dhami took oath as the chief minister of Uttarakhand on 4th July 2021. He is the 11th CM of the state. Governor Baby Rani Maurya administered him as the Chief Minister. The ceremony was held in Raj Bhawan, Dehradun.

Pushkar Singh Dhami also became the youngest chief minister of the state. He is 45 yrs of age. As far as his political career is concerned, it started way back in 1990. He was a student then and was affiliated with the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP). This is the student wing of the RSS.

Dhami has served as the President of the BJP Yuva Morcha in Uttarakhand. This happened during 2002-2008. In 2012, he became an MLA from the Khatima constituency. In 2016, Dhami got appointed as the Vice President of the Uttarakhand state BJP.

Dhami also took to damage control right after his appointment. He even talked to the senior ministers who were sulking over his appointment.

With 3 Chief Ministers in the last six months and elections around the corner, Uttarakhand is surely in a state of Political Turmoil. It will be interesting to see if Pushkar Singh Dhami can turn the tables around for BJP.
