PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the 450-km Mangaluru-Kochi natural gas pipeline last Tuesday. Chief Ministers and Governors of Kerala and Karnataka were present at the event. The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan also attended the event. There, he addressed everyone by saying that India’s focus on a gas-based economy is part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat project.

PM Modi included that work is executing in the direction of ‘One Nation, One Gas Grid’. He declared it as a step towards putting efforts to build future energy needs from today itself. Furthermore, The government’s integrated approach to energy planning has bought various reforms across the oil and gas sector. It is covering exploration and production and natural gas marketing and distribution.
He named this project as one of the developments towards a better nation. The aim is to fulfill every necessary amenity to each and every household of India.

The new natural gas pipeline network
The natural gas pipeline is built at ₹3,000 crores of cost. GAIL India Ltd., India’s largest natural gas company built this pipeline. The pipeline has a design capacity of 12 million standard cubic meters per day. Although, it will carry natural gas from the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Regasification Terminal at Kochi in Kerala.
It will carry it to Mangaluru at Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka. Moreover, it will be passing through 10 districts Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Ernakulam of Kerela.
Benefits of this network
- The pipeline will supply fuel that will be environment-friendly and affordable to all.
- PM Modi said that pipeline will be providing clean energy to Mangalore Refinery.
- Also, it will play a major role in reducing the pollution in Kerela and Karnataka.
- Other than that, the pipeline will improve the ease of living in both states. It will reduce the expenses of the poor, middle class, and entrepreneurs.
- This pipeline will become the base of the Gas Distribution System in many cities. It will be forming the base of the CNG based transport system.

Promises in the event
PM Modi promised to double the Natural gas pipeline in the upcoming 5-6 years. Also, The Government of India is working towards a vision to connect the entire nation with a one-pipeline grid. Since it will aid in the development of city gas projects. In addition, CNG stations are going to increase to 10,000 from the current no. of 1,500. It will be in the form of CNG for the transportation sector. It will be in the form of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to households.
Also, the world’s biggest hybrid renewable plant combining wind and solar power has started in Gujarat. Hence, India under his government is seeing unprecedented work on highways, railway, metro, air, water, digital, and gas connectivity. This will aid in economic development.
