The Indian women’s hockey team was contesting in the Bronze medal match against Great Britain. Owing to the fact that Great Britain was the Gold medalist in the Rio Olympics, the match was surely not going to be easy. However, Indian women were up to give their all! The match started and in the second quarter, Britain managed to secure a goal and take the lead. Later, they got one more goal from a penalty corner! However, the Indian women soon came up with two consecutive goals and pushed Great Britain into a trail. At the end of the second quarter, Vandana Kataria’s fourth goal of the tournament had got India into a 3-2 lead.

The third quarter saw another goal from the reigning Olympic Gold medalist team, and it equalized the score to 3-3. The British team also got a flurry of Penalty Corners in the last quarter and made an early Penalty-corner conversion into a goal! Thus, Great Britain won the match and the bronze medal by 3-2. However, the Indian women won the hearts of not just the Indian fans but hockey fans across the globe. They did what was not even perceivable! It has been an amazing tournament for our tigresses!

Bajrang Punia

Playing as the second seed in this Olympics, Bajrang had a gold medal contention. With an injury in the right knee, Bajrang did not seem to be in his finest form in the first match itself. Still, he managed to win it. However, he won the second match by fall.

In the semi-final bout, Haji Aliev, the wrestler from Azerbaijan knowing the injury of Bajrang, kept going for his right foot. He managed to put on a four-pointer move and was in the lead. However, Bajrang made an effort coming back and took him down twice getting two points each time. However, ultimately the match ended with a scoreline of 11-5. Though it seems a one-sided match, it wasn’t at all! Bajrang has previously defeated Aliev many times, but apparently, because of the injury, he couldn’t give his level best. However, he is contesting for Bronze tomorrow and the Indian hopes and prayers are with him!

A Surprise History In The Cards From Tokyo?

Aditi Ashok, the young Indian golfer contesting in the women’s individual golf event has been a total surprise package. She has been in the top three for consecutive three days. If the scores stand as is, at the end of the fourth and final round, Aditi could come back home with a Silver Medal to her name. If the case happens to be true, she could become the first Indian golfer to win an Olympic medal.

All of India’s prayers are with Aditi and India expects her to be the Surprise Package of the Tokyo Olympics!

There were other athletes too, contesting today. This included Priyanka and Bhavna in the women’s 20km race walk. Though they do not have medals to their name, the two girls showed brilliant performance, owing to the harsh climatic conditions in Tokyo.

The highlight of the day came when the Indian Men contested in the 4*400 m relay race. Though they failed to qualify for the final race, they managed to put up a new Area record or precisely the new continent record! The men included Mohammed Anas Yahiya, Jacob Amoj, Rajiv Arokia, and Noah Nirmal Tom.

With just two days remaining, India is looking forward to getting a couple of more medals. If India succeeds, this Olympic will become India’s best-ever Olympic Game performance. Before this India had got 6 medals including two silvers in the 2012 London Olympics! It will be interesting to see our athletes in action in the coming days!
