PM-Cares Fund: Measures for COVID-19 Orphaned Children

The outbreak of the second have has been devastating for the country. COVID-19’s second phase has been termed catastrophic. To support the children who lost both their parents, the government announced measures from the PM-Cares fund.

Many unfortunate children lost both their parents. On Saturday, the Modi government announced the much-needed relief measures for those children.

PM Modi said that the children are the future of our country. Our government will do everything to support and protect them. He added this during the announcement.

PM Modi also added that it is our duty, as a society, to take care of our children. By doing so, we will instill hope for a bright future.

Highlights Of The Measures Announced:

•        First, children who lost both their parents will receive a monthly stipend when they turn 18. The children will also receive a fund of Rs 10 lakh when they turn 23.

•        Second, the government will ensure free education.

•        Third, under Ayushman Bharat, free health insurance of Rs 5 lakh will be ensured.

What are the benefits for school children below 10 years?

•      The children will be given admission to the nearest Kendriya Vidyalaya. Alternatively, in a private school as a day scholar.

•        If the child is in a private school, the fees will be given from the PM-Cares Fund. It will be in accordance with the RTE Norms.

•        Additionally, it will also bear the expenditure of the uniform, textbooks, and notebooks from the PM-Cares Fund.

What are the benefits for school children between 11-18 years?

•        The child will be admitted to any residential governmental school. Namely, Sainik School, Navodaya Vidyalaya, and others.

•        Moreover, if the child is been taken care of by guardian/ grandparents/ extended family. In that situation, the child will be given admission to the nearest Kendriya Vidyalaya or in a private school as a day scholar.

How support for higher education will be given?

•        Loans for higher studies/professional courses as per the existing educational loan norms. The interest to the loan amount will be paid from the PM-Cares Fund.

•        Alternatively, equivalent scholarship to the tuition fees or the course fees for the undergraduate/ vocational courses. It will be provided under Central or State government schemes.

•        For those, who are not eligible for the existing scholarship programs, an equivalent scholarship will be given by the PM-Cares fund.

In addition, the children will get a health insurance coverage of Rs5 lakh. It will be under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme (PM-Jay). Notably, the premium amount for the children till the age of 18 will be paid by the PM-Cares Fund.

To summarize, the generous contribution made to the PM-Cares Fund made it possible to take the necessary measures.

Children grow to their full potential and become the future of society and the country. Unfortunately, they lost their parents due to COVID-19. The government stands with them with a promise of safeguarding their future.
