Swachh Survekshan: Indore bags the award for the cleanest city in India

On Saturday, President Ram Nath Kovind honored the cities at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi.

As a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched in 2014, cities and towns in India are awarded the title of ‘Swach Cities.’

What are the evaluation criteria? On the basis of the cleanliness and sanitation drive of the cities and towns.

This year, Madhya Pradesh’s Indore bagged the award for the cleanest city in India. Interestingly, this is for the fifth time in a row that Indore won the title.

Swachh Survekshan 2021, the annual cleanliness survey by the Central Government. Why? Thus, to promote sanitation in the urban areas. Indore was followed by Surat and Vijayawada as the second and the third cleanliest city with a population of around 1 million.

Next on the list is Varanashi, ranked as the cleanest city under the ‘Ganga Town’ category.

Here is the list of the top 10 Cleanest Cities in India:
  1. Indore
  2. Surat
  3. Vijayawada
  4. Navi Mumbai
  5. Pune
  6. Raipur
  7. Bhopal
  8. Vadodara
  9. Vishakhapatnam, and
  10.  Ahmedabad.

Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, tweeted his heartiest congratulations to Indore for bagging the award for the fifth time in a row. He also let out his congratulations to the people, political leadership, Municipal Corporation, Swachhagrahis & Safaimitras. For their valuable contribution to keeping the city clean.

The award for the cleanest city in India goes to Chhattisgarh.

The CM of Chhattisgarh received the award for being the cleanest city in India. Bhupesh Baghel, the CM of Chhattisgarh, dedicated the award to the people associated with the sanitation system. Moreover, to the people of Chhattisgarh for making this possible.

Moreover, with the participation of 4,320 cities, the 6th edition of the Swachh Survekshan became the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey. Thus, setting a record in itself.

The success of the cleanliness survey of 2021 lies in the fact that over five crore citizens registered their feedback. But last year’s numbers were around 1.87 crores.

Several other cities did well in the survey. Keeping our country clean should be the top priority of every citizen. It is great to see more and more people getting associated with the cause.

Furthermore, the Government should come with a deadline to have our cities and rivers clean. A clean environment is a basic human right. Moreover, we must take care of the environment as it is our nurturer.
