Twitter and Facebook may stop operating in India from tomorrow. The Indian Government sent few guidelines to these social media apps to adhere on them as soon as possible. Apparently, the deadline for the same given by Indian Government to these social media giants is ending tomorrow i.e 26th May, 2021.
The Indian government, has requested Twitter and Facebook to amend or modify some of the guidelines. Companies, on the other hand, have failed to put them into practice. Furthermore, a top official indicated that if social media companies do not obey the government’s directives, they risk losing their status and rights as intermediaries. As a result, they will be subject to criminal prosecution under Indian law.
Koo is the only Indian social media firm to hire a resident grievance officer, a chief compliance officer, and a nodal point of contact. On the contrary, not a single social media behemoth took part in this stunt. Furthermore, the refusal of social media corporations to opt for these appointments did not sit well with the government.
Many Indians, however, are taken aback by the news that these apps may be prohibited in India. As a result, cross your fingers and hope for the best.
