UPSC Postponed CSE Prelims 2021

The CSE (Civil Service Examination) is a national competitive exam in India.  Conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, popularly known as the UPSC. It recruites students to various position under the Goverment of India . It comprises IAS (Indian Administrative Services), IFS (Indian Foreign Services), and IPS (Indian Police Services).

About 8-11 lakh candidates appear for 1000 seats. Since the ratio of success is about 0.001, competition is very high. It happens to be one of the most difficult examinations in India.

There are three phases of the Examination. First is the preliminary examination. It consists of two objective-type papers. The second is the mains exam or the written paper. It consists of nine conventional (essay) type papers. Amongst the nine papers, two are qualifying in nature. Marks of seven papers are taken into account.

Later, the candidate gets a call for a personal interview. This happens only after the candidate has qualified both the aforesaid examinations. Also, this is the last phase of the examination.

The UPSC Calendar under general circumstances is:

Preliminary Examination: Held in June, results announced in August.

Mains Examination: Held in October, the results announced in January (following year).

Personal Interview: Held in March, results announced in May.

Moreover, the training session with the selected students begins from September.

The Prelims examination for 2021 was scheduled on 26.07.2021. However, India saw the second wave of Covid-19, and the cases surged from the end of March. Since its arrival, the pandemic has impacted almost everything. This also includes the lives of 2021 CSE aspirants.

On Thursday, the UPSC decided to defer the preliminary examination. The official website said the exam will be postponed to 10.10.2021. Candidates to visit the official website for more information.

Likewise, the dates for the mains and the interview are subject to change. Most Importantly, the Commission had earlier postponed the final interview of the aspirants of the 2020 examination.

Notably, there is an age limit for the aspirants. These unprecedented times are creating panic among students. Appeals for the extra attempts are trending on Twitter.
