PM Modi announced the National Health ID Card – All that you should know
On Monday, PM Narendra Modi announced the national Health ID card for every Citizen of India.
The launched scheme finds roots in a 2018 Niti Aayog Proposal of having a centralized mechanism for health care. What is the aim? The aim basically is to uniquely identify, every participating user in the National Health Stack.
What all you should know about the National Health ID Card?
The newly launched National Health ID Card is going to be a collection of all the health-related information of an individual.
The National Health Authority of India says that if any patient wishes to have their health information available digitally. Then he/she should begin by creating the Health ID Card.
According to National Health Authority, every health ID card will be linked with a data consent manager. Like, say the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM). What will this do? It will ensure to seek the patient’s consent in all situations. And, further, allow for seamless flow of health-related information. Notably, from the Personal Health Records Module, health-related information will be taken.
Moreover, the National Health ID Card registration will require the basic information of an individual. The registered mobile number and Aadhar Card number with basic details are the requirements as of now.
Why linking with Aadhar Number? Because it will make the ID unique to the individual, and they will have the option to link all their health records to this particular ID.
What original purpose will the health ID card serve?
According to the National Health Policy of 2017, India needs a digital health technology ecosystem. What will this ecosystem aim for?
It aims at developing an integrated health information system that serves the needs of all the stakeholders. And, also improves efficiency, transparency, and citizens’ experience in terms of public and private healthcare. Moreover, NITI Aayog, the central government’s think tank, introduced a consultation for the digital backbone of India’s Digital Health Care System. Known as the National Health Stack Policy it came into effect in 2018.
Summing up:
NITI Aayog has also proposed a digital health ID card system to reduce medical errors and provide better care. To provide such a system departments like the National Health Authority, Ministry of Health, and Family Welfare came into the picture. Also, the Ministry of Electronics and IT plays a crucial step in the planning and implementation. For the last month, the IT department is preparing a strategy document for enabling a centralized healthcare facility for everyone.
