CHARANJIT SINGH CHANNI TO BE CONGRESS’ CM FACE IN PUNJAB
Congress has announced Charanjit Singh Channi to be their Chief Minister face for the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made the announcement on February 6 during a virtual rally in Ludhiana.
The high command took the opinion of the common man to make this decision through Interactive Voice Response calls. Gandhi said that people wanted to see Channi as the candidate because he comes from a poor family, thus he feels their pain. He also remarked that Channi, the first Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab, understands poverty and knows it deeply.
After the big announcement, Channi thanked the Congress High Command and the people of Punjab for bestowing their trust in him. He also said that this is a big battle and that he would need the help of the people of Punjab to win it.
Channi tweeted that we would “take Punjab and Punjabis on the path of progress with new zeal and dedication.”
Sidhu’s Opinion
Navjot Singh Sidhu was Channi’s contender to be the face of Congress in Punjab elections. Although there were tensions among them initially, Sidhu said that he has already agreed with Rahul Gandhi’s decision. He even raised Channi’s hand after the announcement.
Sidhu, who will contest the Punjab polls from Amritsar East, also hailed Rahul Gandhi, saying that only he could have made a Dalit the CM of Punjab.
