Google removes nine apps from Play Store for stealing Facebook passwords

Google has recently taken strict actions on nine apps and removed them from Play Store for allegedly stealing Facebook’s credentials.

The aforesaid Trojans apps were stealing user passwords and usernames using identical Javascript code.

First reported by ArsTechnica and later by the security researchers at Dr. Web, these mobile applications used a special technique to trick users into giving away their Facebook credentials.

These apps gave the option to users to disable in-app ads after which they were asked to link their Facebook account. And while linking their profile, a Javascript code would save the user’s passwords and usernames.

After the victim logged into their account, the Trojans also stole cookies from the current authorization session,” said the Dr. Web researchers.

What to do if you’re a Victim of these Apps?

Well, if you have been using any of the above-mentioned applications, make sure you uninstall them right away. Further, you should change the password of your Facebook account.
