In The New Turn of Events, Chirag Paswan makes it LJP vs LJP
Monday came with a big churn in Bihar’s Politics. Chirag Paswan and Lok Janshakti Party(LJP), were at the eye of the storm! He was ousted from the party his father built.
Chirag Paswan and Politics
The sitting Lok Sabha MP from Jamui, Chirag has been facing the daunting task of carrying forward the legacy of his father. Chirag Paswan can be introduced as the son of Ram Vilas Paswan, former Cabinet Minister. Ram Vilas Paswan was known to be the best when it came to forming alliances and analyzing the mood of the voters beforehand.
After the death of his father in October last year, Chirag was eventually chosen as the successor of LJP.
Chirag has tried his hands at Cricket and acting. However, destiny had other plans for him. Upon failing in both, Chirag moved to Politics.
Often blamed with Nepotism, he defends himself by saying that Politics runs in his blood. Therefore, it is the only occupation that would suit him the best!
A Turn Of Events For Chirag
On Monday, five of the six Lok Janshakti Party MPs in Lok Sabha rebelled against Chirag. They went on to elect Pashupati Kumar Paras in his place. Paras is the youngest brother of the former’s father.
Not just that, but on Monday, Chirag was also sacked from the post of the party’s national president. This caused a split within the party. The faction with Chirag, within minutes, issued a letter ‘expelling’ the five rebel MPs. Now, both factions of the party are seemingly jostled to take control of the party.
Interestingly, one of the five-party leaders, who revolted against Chirag is his own cousin Prince Raj. He is the MP from Samastipur and is the son of Ram Chandra Paswan, the former Lok Sabha MP who died in 2019.
The Reason For The Split
One of the reasons for this division in LJP could be associated with the Bihar assembly Elections of 2020.
Chirag’s decision to walk out of the NDA coalition was not much welcomed by the members of his party. As a result, LJP performed poorly despite having an emotional edge due to RL Paswan’s death!
Another reason could be JDU. For the first time, JDU has been reduced to the junior partner of BJP in the state. To overcome this, JDU has tried to bring many of the LJP members to its party.
Also, Paras, who made the coup against Chirag is known as a pro-Nitish person. He might not favor BJP but surely has a soft heart for Nitish!
With the tensions increasing and none of the factions ready to give up, the Bihar Politics situation has become more interesting. Chirag’s recent comment saying that he is the son of a lion and hence his fight will continue has stirred the conflict more.
