Tokyo Olympics Day-3: Not Good Day For India; Events To Eye On Day-4

The Tokyo Olympics Day-3 ended with Japan moving to the top of the medals tally. The US and China following Japan closely. The Russian Olympic Committee is on no.4. Since Russia cannot use the country’s name and flag, the 335 athletes are competing under the acronym ROC.

The Tokyo Olympics Day-3 did not go well for India. Major losses were seen. The shooting team could not qualify for the finals, and the archers lost against South Korea. Manika Batra also lost her match against the Polish.

A Single Win On Tokyo Olympics Day-3

However, despite the consecutive losses of Manika and Sutirtha, it was a beautiful experience to watch the 39-year old Sharath Kamal Achanta win his match. The struggle of Achanta has the power to give anyone goosebumps! This 39-year old has struggled with knee injuries for the past 10 years. He defeated the Portuguese Tiago Apolónia by 4-2. He will take on the Chinese Ma Long in the round-3 match tomorrow.

The loss was also seen by the Indian Middleweight boxer Ashish Kumar who lost to the Chinese by a unanimous decision. Another loss came when the Indian Women’s Hockey Team lost to the Germans by 2-0. However, the efforts of the Indian Women were commendable. This is the first time in history that the Indian Women’s Hockey team has qualified consecutively to the Olympics respectively in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Indian Swimmer Sajan Prakash also finished fourth in his heat and 24th overall. He too could not qualify for the semis. The Indian Fencer Bhavani Devi also lost to the French opponent.

However, a breaking came towards the end of the day. Mirabai Chanu who has successfully returned home received a warm welcome at the airport. The bigger news was that she could get the Gold medal. This is because her Chinese Opponent who finished no. 1 has to undergo a dope test. If she tests positive her validation for the gold will stand annulled.

There are still many games to look forward to on the fourth day. This includes the mixed shooting event of 10m Air Pistol. The men’s Hockey Team will also be seen in action against Spain.

India hopefully looks forward to the additions to the medal tally!
