All that you need to know about PM Modi’s tour to the U.S

PM Narendra Modi is on a five-day tour to the United States. Thus, PM Modi started his tour to the U.S on Wednesday.

Also, PM Modi will address the UN General Assembly, attend the Quad Summit. PM Modi will also hold a bilateral meeting with U.S President Joe Biden at the White House.

This is the first meeting of PM Modi with U.S President Joe Biden after Biden took charge early this year. Although the two have virtually met on three occasions. Wondering where? In the Quad Summit held in March, the climate change summit in April, and the G-7 summit in June of 2021.

Also, PM Modi will be visiting the U.S alone. The PM will be accompanied by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in the five-day tour.

Scope of the five-day tour:

An occasion to strengthen the strategic ties

          PM Modi made a statement before leaving for the United Nations. PM Modi mentioned that he will conclude his visit with an address to the United Nations General Assembly. The address will focus on global issues like the COVID-19 pandemic, threat of terrorism, climate change, and other concerns of importance.

          PM Modi also said that he is looking forward to meeting Vice-President Kamala Harris. Why? Because PM Modi wants to explore opportunities for cooperation between India and the U.S in the field of Science and Technology.

Bilateral Meeting with U.S President Joe Biden on 24th September

           PM Narendra Modi will be meeting U.S President Joe Biden for the first time in person on 24th September.

          Ahead of PM Modi’s visit, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that discussion on the Afghanistan crisis will be an agenda in the bilateral meeting. On India’s front, India will convey the message that Washington needs to continue to focus on Afghanistan.

The issues that are likely to be addressed in this meeting are:
  • Developments in Afghanistan
  • China’s propaganda
  • Ways to curb cross-border terrorism
  • Expansion of the India-U.S collaboration
  • Bilateral trade and investment ties
  • To focus and strengthen defense and security partnership
  • Explore new opportunities in R&D and future technology
  • Both U.S President Joe Biden and PM Modi have been in regular contact for the past few months.
PM Narendra Modi will also meet the Vice-President Kamala Harris

         This is going to be PM Modi’s first formal meeting with the U.S Vice-President Kamala Harris. Before this, PM Modi and Kamala Harris spoke over the phone in June 2021.

       Thereby, PM Modi and Kamala Harris are expected to discuss bilateral, regional, and global issues which will be of mutual interest.

PM Modi to meet the CEO’s of American Companies

         Furthermore, PM Narendra Modi is also to meet the CEOs of American Companies on 23.09.2021 in Washington.

           The Heads of Qualcomm, Adobe, First Solar, General Atomics, and Blackstone companies will attend the meeting. The scope of India’s technology advancement will be discussed.

Other important discussions scheduled to take place are:
  • Quad Leaders’ Summit on 24.09.2021 in Washington.
  • Address on COVID to the UN General Assembly on 25.09.2021 in New York.
