Nine New Judges Took Oath In Supreme Court: Historic Event
On Tuesday in New Delhi, 9 judges took oath at the annexe complex in the Supreme Court. Furthermore, Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana also read the oath of allegiance on Tuesday.
Also, this is for the first that as many as nine judges in a single stroke have taken the oath. This is also a historic event in several ways. Moreover, now just one vacancy is left in the top court. Among the nine judges, three were women judges.
Justice BV Nagarathna can be the first Indian women chief justice in 2027. Furthermore, this is for the first time the Supreme Court allowed the live telecast of the event. Normally Supreme Court does not allow the live telecast of the ceremony because it gets held in the courtroom of the chief justice of India. But this time the ceremony is there at the new annexe complex.
Also, the number of women judges has gets increased from one to four. This time there is the highest number of women judges in the Supreme Court. Here is the information about few judges amongst the nine judges.
Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka
Justice Abhay has taken an oath as chief justice of Karnataka high court on May 10 2019. He did his graduation in science he completed his post-graduation in law from the University of Bombay. He mainly focused on public interest litigation [PIL].
Justice Vikram Nath
He has taken his oath as chief justice of Gujarat high court on September 10 2019. He was born on September 24, 1962. Championed in personal liberty in preventive detention cases. Furthermore, he is also line to be the chief justice of India.
Justice Hima Kohli
Taken the oath as chief justice of Telangana high court. born on September 2, 1959. She did her graduation and post-graduation from the University of Delhi. She played an important role in ensuring the supply of medicine and treatment during the covid-19 pandemic as chief justice of Telangana.
