Vaccine Registration Portal CoWin set to go global, Over 50 Countries Showed Interest

The ‘Made in India’ vaccine registration portal CoWin is set to go global. This is because more than 50 countries have expressed their interest in adopting the tech.

CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA), RS Sharma, confirmed the same in a tweet on June 28. As per the tweet, the government will build a similar open-source platform to let countries use it without any cost.

CoWin (COVID-19 Vaccine Intelligence Network) is India’s indigenous vaccine delivery platform. Here, eligible citizens can register themselves and book a slot for a vaccine using the portal.

The platform developed in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

According to RS Sharma, the open-source version of CoWin shall be available free of cost to all the interested countries across the world. On 5th July, at 3 pm, ‘CoWINGlobalConclave’ will showcase this. You can visit www.nha.gov.in for more details on it.

After a few initial glitches, the portal CoWin emerged as a successful attempt by the Government of India. Now, it rolls out and tracks the vaccines effectively. Earlier, for rolling out massive vaccines, this portal turned helpful. Firstly vaccinating people over 60 years of age and then those above 45 years.

From May 1, 2021, the government announced a vaccination program for all above 18 years. Hence, in every phase, CoWin had played an important role.

Portal CoWin Technology: Going Global

As per sources, the countries that have shown interest in the CoWin-like tech platform include Vietnam, Mexico, Nigeria, Ukraine, Iraq, the Dominican Republic, and the UAE.

These countries would like to adopt similar technology to inoculate their population with COVID-19 vaccines.

In a recent tweet dated June 23, RS Sharma said that the CoWin portal “built for scale.”

For vaccination, many people prefer this portal. Hence, the portal experiences massive traffic. Also, the platform touched the peak traffic of 1.83 million API calls per minute at 12:04 PM. Now, it has handled 30,000 API calls per second, said RS Sharma in the tweet.

The portal CoWin witnessed the highest number of people logged in to the portal on June 21 to get 86 lakhs people jabbed, which is a record in itself. This number is higher than that of the population of any Nordic country.

So, make sure to share this proud news with your friends and families. Also, do share your experience with the CoWin portal below.
