African woman gives birth to 10 babies: breaks World’s record

A woman from Gauteng, South Africa broke Guinness World Record on 7^th June 2021. Gosiame Thamara Sithole gave birth to a set of 10 babies at once. In fact, she is already a mother of six-year-old twins. Previously, a Morrocan lady, Halima Cisse set the record who gave birth to a set of nine children in Morocco last month. And now Gosiame broke this record.

Experience of pregnancy with 10 babies

Her Husband Teboho Tsotetsi said that she delivered 10 babies successfully in a hospital in Pretoria, Gauteng. At first, doctors said that she will be going to have six children (sextuplets). Later, the doctor detected that she will give birth to eight babies (octuplets) after medical checkup reports. The doctor was not able to detect the other two babies initially because they were inside the wrong tube. But ultimately, she delivered seven boys and three girls by Caesarean section.

Before the birth of babies, she had an interview with Pretoria News. She told that earlier she was shocked by her pregnancy. It was very tough for her at the beginning. She was sick and faced many challenges regarding her health. It was quite hard to bear the pain and carry it along with your daily chores. But she is used to it now.

I don’t feel much pain anymore as of now, but still, it’s a bit tough to handle. I just pray to God every day to give me strength so that I could deliver all my children in a healthy condition. Just want me and my children to come out alive safely and would be pleased about it

Professor Dini Mawela, deputy head of the school of medicine at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, said that Gosiame’s case was rare. It is usually due to fertility treatments.

It’s a very and rare unique situation. I don’t know how often such happens. It’s a highly complex and high-risk pregnancy. The danger is that, because there is not enough space in the womb for the ten children, the tendency is that babies will be small. What could happen is that they would take them out in the pre-birth term because there is a heavy risk if they keep them longer in the womb. The babies will come out small, but her chances of survival will be compromised. But all this depends on how long she carries them in her womb.

However, Sithole clarified that she was not on any fertility treatment. She told the Pretoria News that her pregnancy was quite natural.
