North India: The Heart & Face of India that Needs a Reset Button!

No matter how unreal it is to believe, “Unity in Diversity” is indeed something India can never be visualized without. North India is one such unique region of India.

We have just put forth our best attempt to highlight the Northern Part of India, which somehow seems to be full of vitality and fascination, still struggles in essentials and necessities.

We have covered specific areas of interest and some problems faced by residents, along with some probable solutions to them.

Uttar Pradesh

Being the country’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh the perfect blend of India’s deep-rooted culture, history, tourism, and everything in between. The state is well-known for mouth-watering cuisines, street food, agriculture, and blissful nightlife. In Uttar Pradesh lies the real essence of the Indian culture and tradition, carefully preserved by the residents. Further, it is home to the World’s Largest Public Gathering in the form of Kumbh Mela, which is conducted every years in Prayagraj (Allahabad). However, Kumbh Mela is also organized at three other pilgrimage sites including Haridwar, Ujjain, and at Nashik.

Major Attraction: Taj Mahal, Assi Ghat, Bara Imambara, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort, and more

Major Problems faced by the People of Uttar Pradesh:

  • Unemployment:

Solution: One thing is clear. Unemployment is a bigger problem we think it is. So, the solution of this problem is also not so easy. But some major steps can be taken to lower the unemployment in the state.

While government can bring new policies and initiatives like Skill India, Digital India, etc. , educated people need to come forward and join hands and become job providers.

Uttarakhand

Fondly known as the ‘Devbhumi’ (Lands of the Gods), Uttarakhand is loved by almost all Indians for its breezing weather and scenic mountains. It is rich in wildlife and boasts many Hindu pilgrimage sites. The state is home to some of the beautiful cities like Rishikesh, Nainital, Mussorie, and more.

Due to the hilly areas and proximity to the Himalayas, you will find many national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and valleys across the beautiful state. A visit to Uttarakhand gives you a sense of inner peace and oneness.

The state is also the home to India’s second-highest mountain- Nanda Devi.

Major Attractions: Jim Corbett, Kedarnath Temple, Naini lake, Shree Badrinath Temple, Cave Garden, and more.

Major Problems faced by the People of Uttarakhand:

  • Frequent Natural Disasters

Solution: One of the biggest problems Uttarakhand face every year is the frequent natural disasters like landslides, flash floods, thunder storms, etc. We can run awareness programs for how to protect yourself and everyone during these difficult times. Besides that, there is lack of proper infrastructure and roads, which should be made for better connectivity.

Delhi

Delhi is not just the capital but the heart of India. Home to several amazing tourist spots like Lotus Temple, India Gate, Akshardham Temple, National Museum, and more, Delhi is famous for food, shopping, nightlife, and everything you can imagine. It is deemed to be a global city in the coming decades.

Be it Connaught Place or ChandniChowk, you will find lots of things for shopping and things to do and explore. So, you will never run out of things to do and experience. Delhi has a different importance when it comes to politics and power. It is the place where country’s major decisions take place.

Major Attractions: Connaught Place, Sarojini Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Fun N Food Village, and more.

Major Problems faced by the People of Delhi:

  • Air Pollution

Solution: To curb air pollution in the national capital, first of all we need to promote the usage of public transport and also the use of electric vehicles. Further, construction sites should be well-covered. Congestion in the city, heavy traffic, and population are indirectly linked to the worse air pollution in the city.

Punjab

Punjab is an Indian state that is famous for its cheerful vibes and finger-licking food. Home to India’s first planned city, Chandigarh, Punjab known for its dance form Bhangra, literature, film industry, cuisines, and festivals and traditions.

Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib), situated in Amritsar, is the holy site of Sikhism that runs a free community kitchen for all visitors. On average, the climate of the state remains cool.

Apart from that, the state is rich in natural habitat, diverse culture, and fresh vibes. Once you’re in Punjab, you’ll never run out of things to do and explore.

Major Attraction: Jallianwala Bagh, Wagah Border, Rock Garden, Rose Garden

Major Problems faced by the People of Punjab:

  • Deep and Spiraling Drug Problem

Due to the proximity to the neighboring country Pakistan, there have been many cases of unwanted drug penetration. The security department and agencies must tighten the security of the border and put the region 24×7 surveillance. This will surely lower down the spiraling of drug problem in the state.

Haryana

Haryana is a northern state in India that shares capital with Punjab in the form of Chandigarh. It has some of the highest numbers of crorepatis in rural parts and ranks 2nd in the country in terms of its standalone GDP.

One of its major cities, Gurgaon, has become a major IT hub in the country, contributing to almost majority the of the economic development. No matter where in North India you live in, you always want to shift to Gurgaon.

Major Attractions: Panchkula, Murthal, Manesar, Damdama Lake, Kalesar National Park

Major Problems faced by the People of Haryana:

  • Gender Discrimination and low sex ratio

Solution: Although as compared to earlier times, the situation of gender discrimination and low sex ratio has improved quite a bit, thanks for the government’s initiate ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’ but there are many remote areas and villages where these problems prevails deep-rooted.

The need of the hour is to promote this initiative to the backward areas and villages. Further, workshops may be conducted for men to educate them about saving a girl child.

Himachal Pradesh

For all those adventurous souls out there, Himachal Pradesh is a blessing in disguise. The Indian state is known for its scenic mountains, lush green resorts, and a reflection of Buddhist and Hinduism culture.

The people of Himachal Pradesh are kind-hearted and supportive. Further, it is famous for its handicrafts like paintings, leather products, stoles, carpets, and more.

Major Attractions: Dharamshala, Shimla, Manali, Dalhousie, Kasauli

Major Problems faced by the People of Himachal Pradesh:

  • Less Job Opportunities

Solution: The newly graduates must be trained and skilled and them ready to face the real business world. Shopping complexes, economic zones, and innovation-led startups should be setup in the region to bring more job opportunities.

Jammu Kashmir

Dubbed as the ‘Paradise of Earth,’ Jammu Kashmir has been an integral part of India since Independence. The state is full of scenic views, snow-capped mountains, valleys, lakes, and gardens.

The climate condition of the state makes people flock during the summer season. It is also one of the top-rated tourist destinations in Northern India.

Kashmir represents the perfect amalgamation of freedom, natural inhabitant, and cultural diversity. Due to the proximity with Pakistan and China, the region has a huge influence on the Muslim culture.

Major Attractions: Gulmarg, Amarnath, Vaishno Devi, Anantnag

Major Problems faced by the People of Jammu Kashmir:

  • Unrest at the Indo-Pak Border

Solution: The solution to the problem of unrest in the Indo-Pak border is something that can only be resolved through political intervention. Unless and until Pakistan stops funding the terror groups in their country, India will not indulge in any talks with the state.

So, the solution to the problem lies with both the governments taking equal steps in overcoming the conflict over Kashmir.

Ladakh

After the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act in 2019, Ladakh has become a union territory of India. With this reorganization, the people of Ladakh experienced a fresh beginning. It is one of the top-rated tourist destinations spots in summer.

Pangong Lake is a must as and when you visit the region. Further, you will find many lakes, valleys, and flora and fauna across the region. The cultural diversity and tradition of Ladakh make it a unique part of India.

Major Attractions: Thiksey Monastery, Khardung-la Pass, Nubra Valley, Hemis National Park

Major Problems faced by the People of Ladakh:

  • Unrest at the Indo-China Border

Solution: China has always been aggressive when it comes to claiming an Indian region. But time and again, they have paid the price for intervening into the India’s demographic border.

The clashes with China will only be solved when China changes its aggressive strategy. Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping should change his policies and intention towards India then only this problem can be resolved.

Even after being at fault and witnessing unjust, people in Northern India leave no choice to love their region, their land and their country, highlighting again and again, that even with faults, things can be lovable!
