PM Narendra Modi is on a visit to the U.S dated 22-25 September 2021, at the invitation of U.S President Joe Biden.
23 September 2021 was the first day of PM Modi’s visit to the U.S.
Highlights of the Day1:
PM Modi had several high-profile engagements. It included meetings with the top CEOs of the American Countries and their Australian and Japanese and counterparts. Also, PM Modi will attend his first-in person meeting with Kamala Harris, U.S Vice President.
And, over the next two days, PM Modi will also meet Joe Biden, the President of the U.S, attend the Quad Leaders’ Summit and address the General Assembly of the United Nations.
Firstly, a meeting with Qualcomm CEO Christiano Amon:
The first meeting of PM Modi was with Qualcomm CEO Christiano Amon. Discussion on technology advancement in India and using technology for public welfare took place.
Furthermore, a discussion on semi-conductors and Digital India Initiative was also there.
Secondly, an important meeting was with Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen:
The scope of technology in education, supporting the booming start-up culture in India, and promoting innovation were discussed.
Narayen also showed interest in taking the joy of videos and animation to every child in India.
Also, there was a discussion about Adobe’s present collaboration and plans in India, other than the Digital India Initiative.
Thirdly, PM Modi’s meeting with First Solar CEO Mark Widmar:
This meeting was of utmost importance. Why? Because of PM Modi’s interest and push for solar energy. Notably, PM Modi also has launched the International Solar Alliance in November 2015.
PM Modi also mentioned that India targets generating 450 GW of electricity from renewable sources of energy by 2030.
Another aspect of the discussion was the green hydrogen mission and Integration of India into global supply chains.
Fourth, PM Modi’s meeting with the General Atomics CEO Vivek Hall:
India has the potential to be the global drone center by 2030. In this context, the CEO of General Atomics appreciated the recent policy changes to strengthen defense measures in India.
During the press conference, Hall also appreciated India’s space reforms. He agreed that a lot of potential areas are there for the two countries to venture on.
Fifth in line is PM Modi’s meeting with Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman:
Stephen briefed PM Modi about the ongoing projects of Blackstone in India. Also, he expressed his interest in future investments in infrastructure and real-estate sectors.
Furthermore, opportunities under the National Infrastructure Pipeline and National Monetisation Pipeline were also discussed.
Sixth, bilateral meeting with Australian PM Scott Morrisson:
Before the Quad Summit, the PMs of both countries discussed a wide range of topics. The topics aimed at strengthening the people-to-people bond between the two countries.
What was all discussed? Namely regional and global developments and ongoing bilateral cooperation in areas related to the global pandemic. Other topics were also discussed like trade and clean energy.
The bond between PM Modi and PM Morrisson is a special one. Why? Because PM Morrisson informed PM Modi of AUKUS even before the security partnership was officially declared. During the latest conversation between PM Modi and PM Morrisson, India-Australia Comprehensive Strategy was reviewed as well.
Seventh in line is PM Modi’s meeting with the U.S Vice President Kamala Harris:
This meeting was of utmost importance. Why? Because the two heads discussed Afghan advancements. Also, thought was given to the free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
They also discussed the situation of COVID-19 persisting in both countries. Including the steps or measures necessary to control it.
Furthermore, a discussion on the importance of collaborative action on climate change took place. Also, discussions in other fields like space cooperation, Information Technology, and healthcare took place.
It was unfortunate but U.S Vice President acknowledged the role of Pakistan in backing the terror group.
Also, Kamala Harris agreed that India has been a victim of cross-border terrorism. Harris also demanded strict action against the terror groups. Only to make sure there is no threat to the security of both India and the U.S.
The meeting ended on a good note. So, PM Modi also invited the U.S Vice President and US second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff to visit India at the earliest possible.
Eighth was the bilateral meeting of PM Modi with Japanese PM Yoshihide Suga:
In the meeting, PM Modi and PM Suga discussed relationships between India and Japan. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments including that of Afghanistan.
PM Modi thanked PM Suga for his commitment and leadership in the India-Japan Special Strategic & Global Partnership over the last couple of years.
Furthermore, they confirmed their commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
