Indian Cricket Team seals the ODI series vs SriLanka after a tough chase

The Indian Cricket team has sealed the One Day International series against Sri Lanka after their second consecutive win. Though the first match was easier and India turned victorious with comfort, the case was not the same with the second match.

In the ODI that India played yesterday against Sri Lanka, they were held by the collar. The Sri Lankan team were in the driving seat. The Indian team chasing 276, were at a point on 116 for 5. At this point, Bhuvneshwar Kumar came in for batting. He joined Deepak Chahar who was already batting.

The target was still far. No one at this point considered India as the favorites as they still were short of 83 runs. The balls remaining were 89. Still, the two players did not accept defeat. Chahar who already had a List A half century to his name, gave his best performance. Bhuvaneshwar with three List A half centuries supported Chahr diligently. The intelligent game showed by the two players wrenched the game from the Lankan’s fists!

As a result, India won the match rather comfortably towards the end. The victory came India’s way with 5 balls to spare. The spinners did not need to come to the crease. Because of his knock of 69 not out, Chahar became the player of the match. Earlier Suryakumar Yadav had struck 53 off 44 balls.

Though the host’s score of 275 did not seem like a good enough total. But, the early Indian batsmen dismissals made the score look defendable.

The Reaction of Indian Cricket Team

The Indian Test Team in England was hooked to this game in front of the TV. The reaction of Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri along with other members has created a buzz. Virat Kohli appreciated the efforts of the players after the game.

Just for information the Indian Cricket Team players in England will be playing the first test against England from 4th August to 8th August. Virat and Rahane missed the warm up match because of their respective injuries. The rest of the Indian team played against England County select XI. They wore black armbands to mourn the sudden demise of Yashpal Sharma and honour the player from India’s world cup winning team!

The pattern of dividing the Indian Team and sending them to two different countries due to the pandemic is new. It has been welcomed by the cricket fraternity. Though some questions were also raised. Replying to these questions, Virender Sehwag made a statement. He said that the Indian Team against Sri Lanka has shown much potential. If there happens to be a competition against the team in England and the one in SriLanka, the latter might turn out victorious.

Actually it is quite interesting to watch Rahul Dravid coach the national team. The fact that it was his coaching and keen eyes that has potentially brought a lot of talented players to spotlight. He did this through the U-19 selections as a coach and as an official in BCCI. The performance that this Indian Cricket team laden with youngsters has shown is appreciable!
