e-RUPI digital payment platform launched by PM Modi

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced e-RUPI via video conferencing. e-RUPI is a digital payment method based on e-vouchers. Furthermore, as technology advances, having some form of voucher-based payment option has become increasingly crucial.

e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless digital payment mode or instrument. As it is a contactless payment mode, therefore, using a QR code it can get transfer to the mobiles of beneficiaries. The voucher will be redeemable for e-RUPI users who utilise online banking or a digital payments app.

National Payment Corporation of India in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare developed this platform. The National Health Authority also took part in it. Furthermore, the PM stated that under various schemes we will use e-RUPI. This may include the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. It will provide drugs and nutritional support to mothers and children. Moreover, TB eradication programmes, drugs and diagnostics under the Ayushman Arogya Yojana, fertiliser subsidies, and so on.

Despite this, the private sector can benefit from this platform as well. The private sector can use these digital vouchers as part of their employee welfare and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

In addition, the PM stated that e-RUPI will play a critical part in the government’s direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme. e-RUPI, on the other hand, can be thought of as both a person and a payment platform with a defined function. However, this mode can be very helpful for Direct benefit transfer (DBT). As this will provide benefits for around 300 schemes. This includes everything from LPG rations to pensions, which are all paid directly to the beneficiaries.
