Bihar’s Cycle Girl: Father, who cycled 1,200 km last year, passed away

15-year-old Bihar’s Cycle Girl, Jyoti Kumari is the face of The Migrant Labour Crisis. Like last year she cycled for 1200 km (from Delhi to Darbhanga Bihar) with her injured father in her back seat. Mohan Biswas the father lost his life battle due to a cardiac arrest on 31st May 2021. 

The Bihar’s Cycle Girl, Jyoti’s father, an E- rickshaw driver got injured. It was due to a road accident at that time. During the nationwide lockdown, Jyoti realized that landlord of their Gurgaon shelter will ask for rent. It will not be possible for them to pay the same.

So she bought a second-hand cycle and started a 7-day long journey which caught people’s attention. Politicians from Bihar’s Janshakti party offered to pay for her education. UP’s Samajwadi Party offered her family Rs. 1 Lakh. Annand Kumar, the head of coaching center Super 30 had offered her free tuition for the preparation of IIT-JEE, as reported by NDTV.

She was also offered a role of herself in a movie called ‘Atmnirbhar’ which she refused as she wanted to complete her studies first. The New York Times also published an article telling her story. The daughter of the American president’s daughter Ivanka Trump had also mentioned her in a Tweet. After the imposition of the nationwide lockdown, no permanent occupation could due to which the economic struggle did not end for her.
